I've been to my LFS and I've bought some more Molly's 6 to be exact and I bought

4 black female Molly's
1 copper Molly female
1 orange and black female

The women got a Molly that I wanted which was a slightly preg Molly do it gave me a few weeks to get the breeder tank ready and here's the catch

The 4 black Molly's are preg and one is ready to pop any time now !!!!!

So I'm going to have to be cruel and let most of the fry get eaten as my breeder tank won't be big enough for all these fry

Most mollies are pregnant when you bring them home. In fact, they can hold sperm and have fry three times without you having a male in the tank. Think, one batch a month for three months.

I know most of them are preg when they come out of there but I asked for one that was slightly preg and I ended up with 4. Don't get me wrong I'm chuffed that I'll be having babies but I'm sortve on the back foot now with a breeder tank that ive got to somehow get it sorted pretty quick.

I only asked for one preg Molly that would be a couple weeks max and she ended up giving me 4.

Don't get me wrong im chuffed but it's put the pressure on me to get the breeder tank up and running quicker and make sure there's no issues like ammonia ect but hay joys of fish keeping I guess lol

Take some of your media out of you main tank filter to kick start the filter in the fry tank. And congratulations on the babies.

looks a bit too big to be pregnant... i have 4 mollie females and 2 are pregnant atm. squared off and everything and there no where near that size.

sure its not something else? i could be wrong though. im very new to fish keeping

and if anything youve gained. if the fry survive you can sell them back to some LFS for store credit.. win/win situation if you ask me.

Those last 2 pics make her look like her scales are sticking out, this is a sign of dropsy. This could explain why she's not had them yet. I have never experienced it but seen pics. I would wait until someone with more experience confirms it or says i'm talking rubbish lol.

you'll soon learn with livebearers, you cant save them all, and they will always have more, until you separate the sexes. good luck raising your new fry, its a great learning experience all fishkeepers should work through.

I've moved her to my breeder tank and I now have 10 Molly fry in total . Can she still be holding more fry ???

Inside the breeder tank now

Isn't dropsy when they swim on there sides or swimming weirdly ??? As she's not doing any wired swimming

she does look quite squared off underneath which is a sign of pregnany. she couls just be holding a LOT of fry? im not an expert though but on the pic before her scales did look like they was starting to lift

Well today I've found 4 more fry so my grand total is now 10 fry and she's still huge so I'm guessing she's doing a staggered birth

An what are the signs of dropsy for future ref ???

Dropsy is easy. It is nothing more than a description, not a disease. Dropsy describes a fish that is so bloated that the scales on its belly are sticking out, not laying flat against the fish. Unless you can identify why the fish is bloated, your chances of a successful treatment are almost zero. Most people end up thinking that they have a diagnosis because they can describe the symptom so they buy whatever has worked for someone else with a bloated fish. Unfortunately the reason for bloating in your fish is not likely to be the same as that other person experienced. hat means that the "cure" that they used will also not match. It is why dropsy is considered so hard to cure. people just find the other indications that might tell them the real problem so they treat for the wrong thing.
