I was wondering would be a good stocking number for three spined sticklebacks in a 55G? I'm using 2x Aqua Clear 70's(300) 2x Aqua Clear 30's(200 I think they used to be) and 950gph propeller.

what are the tank dimensions. as long as there is a good female to male ratio and lots of broken lines of site on the bottom of the tank for spawning sites you should be able to keep quite a few

a few places in the midlnds sell them. you need a special licence to sell them. iv tracked down a place that sell them and rosey red fathead minnows which is wicked because i can use them to stock the small pond that will water fall into my big pond (when its actually built)

i never knew that. it would be interesting to see a UK based fish pond. keep us informed of any progress.

i was very tempted to try and do a UK based tank but after being told its illegal to collect your own fish i didnt really give it much thought. i never thought that there would be a market for UK fish....

I'm in the process of getting a supplier lined up, but wanted to make sure how many I could get prior to inquriering. The tank is roughly 48"L x 13"W x 20"H. So how many could I be looking at putting in such a tank?

i would say 6 or so females and 2 males. that way your only gonna et two spawning sites and there is stillll plenty of safe swimming space.

would you consider any tank mates?

Hopefully I will be able to sex them as they are brutal to sex when not in breeding season. I guess I will use the logic of the females being more heavey and rounded.
Not sure about tankmates, any suggestions?

Whiteclouds could be an option. Minnows, bitterlings etc.. are not available in my area, we never get anything interesting in the LFS and same goes with our native fish. But I think with the right number of sticklebacks they may just pick on each other, similiar to how tiger barbs act.
