saying a mods post is a rare occurrence is a little harsh as well. A large post count means nothing really. Have a look in the marine section, the planted section, and other specialist sections, there are plenty of mod posts. Just because we are not all posting in the Tropical chit chat, it doesn't mean the mods don't post.

i to have never not seen at least one moderator online. But just because they are online doesn't necessarily mean they are being pro-activeI can't fault the moderating team, get off their backs, they do a great job and without them we wouldn't have a forum. If you see something untoward then report it- simple. I rarely see a time where there is not a moderator online.

If thats the case, then maybe more moderators need to post in that section, because it seems one of the most frequently posted in sectionbit harsh??

Hi Ianho, i don't have a problem with the moderating team, i'm mearly suggesting. Underlined-- thats like a 6.5ft man who goes to the gym for 4 hours a day offering a 5ft, 8 stone person out (not in the affectionate way)Noahs ark6, if you have a problem with the moderating team, please drop one of us a PM and we can discuss the problems you have.

the reasons it isn't is that the questions generally asked in there are ones that the most of the members can answer and answer correctly, the more specialist questions tend to get answered by the mods and membership a like. Why would we need to intervene, when the membership do so well in answering?

I 100% agree with the underlinedI have found the mods have offered some of the most helpful responses to my (many as a newbie) questions. So its a thumbs up for the mods team from me. I am surprised at some of the comments about them to be honest. I have been on some forums where the mods were so apparent and dictatorial in their approach it felt like living in the third reich or something, but I find the ones on here very friendly, tolerant, and above all knowledgeable and helpful.

I don't understand what harm a few extra mods would do?
1) It isn't just as easy as simply 'promoting' people. They have to be a good fit with the group that already exists
2) and ever hear the expression 'too many cooks spoil the soup'? I think it is applicable here.
I dont think number 2 is really applicable here really, seeing a mod post is a little bit of a rare occurance, they soon rear their heads when people question the running of the forum though.
I would have though you knew better Tizer. as already stated. most of the mods job is behind the scenes. and they post a lot more than you give them credit for
as state above. what has the number of posts got to do with anything? If thats the case, then maybe more moderators need to post in that section, because it seems one of the most frequently posted in section
bit harsh??

for the most part, our experts (if there are any left) are not mods. its a quite different job.
not that our EXPERTS like to be called so, that is.
those who do (like to be called EXPERTS) more often then not, aren't. but think they are.
as the MODs are a team. I would have thought its more important that they fit in with the current team.
apart from the lack of posting (which is a none problem). just what problems are our mods having?
incidentally QWERTY diarrhoea, does not mean the poster reads all the post. it simply meant they post a lot. again 2 different things.

1. Don't think a few more mods (maybe 2) would do any harm at all to the place
2. Mods are people who choose to mod the forum they are just like anyone else, if people spoke to each other like they do to a
mod we wouldn't have half the trolls
3. spoke to most of the mods at one time or other in the past year and all have friendly, polite and respectful

What rex means is that it takes different skills to be a mod than just knowing a lot about fish. I'm the first to admit I know nothing about marine, nor about oddballs or brackish. I'm learning about plants. I'm not a mod because I know things. Those who do know a lot about fish might not necessarily have the skills needed to make them a good mod. That's what he means. Can i ask what the underlined has "got to do with anything"?

good one Tizer, that's the way forward. There are plenty of mod posts if you bother to read the forum properly.
my advice would be look at the bottom of your screen every now and again and you'll always see a mod on duty.
I dont blame you for a defensive response ian, if anything i was testing the water a little. You should understand my attitude by now, its a little tongue in cheek at the best of times. While im aware it seems a mod is online most of the time by looking at the bottom of the screen, its not entirely truthful, people would see me online all day because i have the forum open in a tab at work. I might not be at my machine all day though
Please dont take my attitude negatively, you guys do a wicked job and a lot of people hang on your answers as well as other mods, which is what makes this a nice tight knit community, but if people, including the mods dont post enough, how are we all supposed to work one another out and have a bit of a crack with eachother?
