Since we still have a lot of time left to enter for any one of our December XOTM competitions,.... (Pet of the Month,..... Tank of the Month or Fish of the Month)...... I have decided to donate a prize to the winner of one of these competitions (Christmas bonus)......

I have not decided yet to which competition winner, but could be any one of the 3 competitions...... I undertake to personally mail my edition of "Exotic Aquarium fishes" by Dr. William T. Innes..... which is a very old book but served me well for 40 years in the aquarium hobby..... to the winner of one of our TFF monthly competitions (as will be decided)

The cover of the book is a little delapidated, but the rest of the book is still in mint condition. So.... when the winners for December 2011 is announced on 31 December...... one of them will be asked to PM me their mailing address..... and I will send them the "Aquarists bible" (as I know it) to this (lucky) winner.....

I grew up using the 19th edition of this awesome book! I recently purchased the 21st edition off of Amazon and was disappointed to find they totally rewrote the book!

That wouldn't be necessarily fair though... It wouldn't really be a competition of the winning pet, fish and tank as they can't really be compared. It would be a competition of popularity in reality.

I still treasure the 'old' books. I use "All About Tropical Fish" by Derek McInerny 1958, The 19th Edition of "Exotic Aquarium Fishes" by Dr. William T. Innes 1966?, Dr Sterba's Aquarium Handbook 1973 and the Baensch Atlas's. The internet is a good start but there is so much poop on the net that I always refer back to my books for confirmations. The names may all be wrong but it is a great resource.
You have great spirit to pass along such a great book Ludwig!

We could (for instance).... when all 3 winners were announced..... put up another poll (say for about 4 days)..... for the members to decide who they think would be the most deserving winner......

Then be it!..... but I'll rely on the discretion of our members..... to choose the most deserving winner..... (but nothing is finalised yet.....(except that one of the winners will get the book) let's see how it goes, and maybe at the end of the day..... It'll be at my (fair) discretion)......

LOL, but the like button was frowned upon because of it being influenced by popularity? Haha!!

I agree with Minnnt, choosing a winner from the winner of each competition via poll is not fair, as the 3 winners are not comparable, it'll be a popularity contest. I'd recommend putting names into the hat and drawing one, you can't get much fairer than that, or assign each entrant a number and use a random number generator.

I think it should be for tank of the month as fish of the month doesn't take much doing.
With a tank, the owners creativity comes through

The objective of awarding any prize to any one of our monthly competitions would ultimately be to encourage participation......

With TOTM currently standing at 6 entries..... FOTM at only 3 and POTM at 5 entries...... I think the prize should go the the competition winner in the category with the most entries at closing on 31st December 2011,.... (Entries closes on the 15th Dec however). That sounds fair to me???.....
