The article Kelley wrote suggested using 500ppm. Anything under at will suffice from what I hear.

I agree. I think I will pin this
SRC has done a wonderful job with so many links. Just perfect. By the way, that gray Rose lady is one of the only people in the world who ever came down with argyria, it's not common at all. |

Check out 2002 senate hopeful Stan Jones True-blue bids for Senate Argyria used to be more common back before the days of antibiotics, but now not many people take silver suppliments often enough to cause discolouration. As I understand it, argyria would be avoidable with just a little common sense... I mean come on, anyone who takes massive doses of anything daily for years is going to have some side-effects. |

Hey I thought of a question. I've been reading how well it kills bacteria so I wondered does it affect the good bacteria any in a cycled tank?

No, it won't effect the beneficial bacteria, unless you use way, way too much and it runs out of bad bacteria to destroy. It's 'attracted' to the negative bacteria first and foremost, and not the beneficial. I've used it in my cycled tanks with no alterations to my readings. They say if you are taking it orally and heavily, you should eat yogurt and such to keep beneficial bacteria in your system. I remember a member from here used a LOT in her small cycled tank and it ddn't cause it to crash or anything.
Here's my favorite silver link.. http://www.familyhealthnews.com/49.html *Edited for pin* |

It's 'attracted' to the negative bacteria first and foremost, and not the beneficial. Hmm, I'm confused - doesn't make sense to me. Especially when I read your link - found this in it... "Dr. Henry Crooks in Use of Colloids in Health-Disease found that silver in the colloidal state is highly germicidal, quite harmless to humans and absolutely nontoxic. From his bacteriological experiments with silver he concluded "I know of no microbe that is not killed in laboratory experiments in six minutes." AAll bacteria are microbes, both good and bad. I would love to know more about how silver differentiates between them. |

It will kill beneficial bacteria if you take/give more than you should,as I said.
It won't,however, kill beneficial enzymes the way antibiotics do. I obviously didn't word it clearly. QUOTE Unlike pharmaceutical antibiotics which destroy beneficial enzymes, Colloidal Silver leaves these tissue-cell enzymes intact as they are radically different from the enzymes of primitive single-celled life. From my understanding, beneficial microbes send out a charge very similar to that of silver's charge- hence not attacking it first. |

I think it works great, don't get me wrong, I'm a convert simply because of the evidence I see in my tank and in others. I'm just having trouble aligning some of what I'm reading about it with my understanding of immunology and cellular biology. Guess I'll just have to do a bit more digging. |
