Hi , Just asking even if it is a little late for this but...
I was at the store & saw all these bettas in thier cups and felt sorry for them so I choose one and brought it home tonight. He seems very happy but I also brought home a pair of black mollies & planned to get a graumi next week. I think he (betta) is possibly being mean to my male molly. Like flaring up at him here & there. I also have ghost shrimp, and read somewhere that the Betta will eat them!! should I NOT be worried since my tank is so big?? I hope I didn't make a big mistake cause I felt sorry for these beautiful fish This post has been edited by Maya~4Ix12chen: Jan 13 2005, 08:06 AM |

I have placed a male in my 57 US gallon tank before now while I shuffled the other tanks around and he was ok but its a very big territory for them to patrol and it could wear them out. He was only in there for a week but held his own with the other tank mates but they were only guppies and neons. He did however have trouble fighting for food as the other fish were so fast to eat and he liked to size up his prey before he gobbled it down.
I guess a bit of flaring at first is normal as they get used to eachother but I've not kept mollies with a betta so don't know the compatability. I do know however that one of my female betta took exception to some guppy juvies I had in their tank so I had to separate them as she was taking chunks out of their tails. Also the gourami I think would not be a good idea to mix with a betta but again I have no experience of keeping these fish either. The shrimp, again I have no idea sorry I hope someone more knowledgeable can come along soon and put your mind at rest |

The best is get another small tank like 2.5 to 5 gallon for the betta. You don't have to worried about it anymore. All bettas are different so if you want to gamble, put it together. It you don't like gamble, get a small tank for him.
