I found a page of common abbreviations that I printed out from the first forum that I joined when we got our very first aquarium. Sadly the forum got wiped out by hackers , but a piece will live on here now (not to mention a lot of the familure members here), so here is the list of some of the more common abbreviations used on most of the different forums that are around.

Please feel free to add any that I have missed, or correct any that I have gotten wrong.


LOL - Laugh out loud
LMAO - Laughing my a** off
ROTFLMAO - Rolling on the floor laughing my a** off
ROFLMAO -Rolling on floor laughing my ar*e off

IMO - In my opinion
IMHO - In my humble opinion
IMNSHO - In my not so humble opinion
IME - In my experience
FYI - For your information
OTOH - On the other hand
AFAIK - As far as I know
FWIW - For what it's worth
IOW - In other words

SHO - Super Hi output flourescent light

RO - Reverse osmosis (type of water purification)

RUGF - Reverse flow under gravel filter
HOB - Hangs on back
HOBF - Hangs on back filter
SG - Specific Gravity
UV - Ultra violet
