OK, I feel really silly even asking this question because everything I've read says that you can't sex guppy fry until they're quite a few weeks old.

However, I've noticed that half of my newborn fry have a sort of silver/grey quality to them and half of them have a kind of yellow/orange quality to them. This is the case with both of my sets of fry whose mothers are very different colours.

I was just wondering if anyone else had noticed this and whether it is an early indication of sex, or whether I'm completely off my trolley? tongue2.gif

Hi Kathryn biggrin.gif

I too have noticed 2 different sets of colours in my fry but to be honest at 4 weeks old now the females are quite obvious with their gravid spot, but some are one colour and some the other so I don't think that the colour will tell you if one lot is male and one lot is female. I have 2 that are almost transparent with the hint of silver and no other markings, one a female and one a male!

Its fun waiting to see what colour they finally turn out though isn't it w00t.gif

Hi Joby tongue2.gif

Thanks for that. I have first time mum anxieties! These are my first babies so I'm yet to see them develop. It's so exciting, lol laugh.gif

Maybe the silver/grey ones have more melanin than the yellow/orange ones? I'll just have to wait and see....
