Hi there, i am new to fish keeping...about 2months. My tank is now suffering from its 1st and HOPEFULLY last bout of whitespot. I have read many posts on the subject..however my main concern is for my albino B/n plec. When i 1st noticed the spots i did a 20% water change and turned my heater up to 29deg I dn't kno wether to turn it a little higher because of my danios! I am wondering how best to deal with the whitespot with my b/n in the tank!! i DN'T wanna kill him! The treatment i have currently says dose HALF for any 'delicates',and remove carbon. Wondered if anyone had any better information to help me along please. THANKS

p.s Have read countless posts/topics etc... have been very informative and interesting.

Unless you can separate him then your best bet is just to try it at half dose ass recommended and add 5 tablespoons of salt per 10 gallons. Slowly raise your temp to 30-32 to speed up the Ich's cycle as treatment only affects the free-swimming Ich.

don't add salt, salt does not do well with plecos, you should turn the temp up to 32 and incease the airation in the tank

Plecos don't do well with Ich either, the amount of salt I'm suggesting is only half of what would normally be recommended. So I'm inclined to disagree with you. I have 3 pleco's and used about 7.5 tbls per 10 gallons, now they're Ich-free. I wouldn't recommend this but my situation was getting desparate.

Thankyou for your responses....i was aware of the salt thing...but am unsure,as was said,i have read that my b/n will not like the salt. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place crazy.gif As for turning the temp up that high..i have 7 vaious danios and am led to belive they like the cooler waters...would the high temps recommended be ok for them???

I apologise for being a pain..i have read up...i am just torn with various matters, the b/n and salt...the danios and high temps...

I also only have a pet stores own brand of whitespot treatment...does anybody have any recommendations of a better/ branded whitespot treatment. Or are they all much of muchness. THANKS again

Sorry for the conflicting answers. Have you tried anything yet? If not, how do you know it won't work? My suggestion would be to pick up what's available and follow the instructions on the back of the box, most meds on the market are pretty effective, just get at it asap b4 it gets too bad. If that doesn't work then you can try something else.

Good luck.

turn the airation up if you haven't as the higher temp and meds will remove oxygen
