What do the white tips on my sps coral mean?

It almost looks like white bone sticking out of the top. Is it because that is were it is growing or is something eating it ?

Usually indicitave of a problem.

Changed lighting recently?
Hows your alkalinity and phosphate?
Is it all your SPS or just some?
Is it ONLY the tips or other parts of the coral too?
Any change in dosing or feeding regimen recently?
Pics of the tank would help

if it is the very top bit of an acropora coral then it is the new growing tip and is normal.
