Would a Takifugu Ocellatus work with freshwater morays? I've heard that they require elevated oxygen content and that they are not as aggressive as some puffers. Is this true?

Takifugu ocellatus can be plenty aggressive and nippy when it wants to be. While most specimens seem to be peaceful enough for the short periods they live, there are enough horror stories to make me cautious.
In any case, unless your morays are coldwater/subtropical species, they have no place in the cool T. ocellatus aquarium. Cheers, Neale |

I kept a pair of these for all of 24 hours. They were truly horrific. I wouldn;t keep them again because they destroyed some of my other fish. Sad really, they look great.

I agree, not for the beginner, or community tank, also these seem to be a bugger to keep alive long term for some reason?

Almost certainly because they are kept at the wrong temperature and simply become heat exhausted. They are warm temperate/subtropical fish. If the water goes above 15-18 degrees, you will likely need a chiller. Other members of the genus are widely kept as laboratory fish, so I don't imagine there's any intrinsic reason why this species can't be maintained either.

I would imagine you are correct in that assumption Neale, It is the reason i have never kept one, due to needing a chiller. I have known several people who have kept them unsuccessfully, which is a shame because they are a great looking fish. |
