Hi all, i am getting a 240ltr tank soon and was wondering which cichlids would best suit. I am moving all the fish i have(in sig) to the new tank.
I orignally wanted firemouths but got told they would eat most of my stock, now im thinking 3 or 5 keyhole's or purple cichlids. Wolld they be alright with what i have or will they eat everything aswell?. If so could anyone point me in the right direction, something sorta the same shape as cichlids. |

Dude you gotta get some Firemouths. They got a cool personality and are the best colored of all the cichlids IMO.

Hi. I have a 5x2x2 with 1/3 sand 2/3 gravel. I have 10 keyhole cichlids, 2 Sheephead Acara, 2 Normal Acara, 2 Firemouth, 2 Severum, 3 kribs, 4 assorted plecs, 2 Bristlenose and 2 High fin Bristlenose. Most are still juvenile but seem to get on quite well. Keyholes are naturally peaceful and don't grow too big so no troubles there. Firemouths are a beautiful fish, especially when the male shows off his colours. Its good watching such a variety of fish swimming around together.

You could maybe have one.. I've heard that it depends on the personality of that particular fish..
What are the dimensions of your tank? If its big enough you maybe able to pull it off as the firemouth would establish his territory (hopefully you can scape it in a way that he would choose one to the side of the tank) and leave the rest of the fish alone. Personally i have no experience with them, so whatever i say is just from what i have read/heard about them, so maybe someone who does have experience with them can enlighten? I would go for a rams though This post has been edited by Mr. Convict: Jul 15 2008, 04:33 AM |

Mr Convict is right in a way but if you are going to get Firemouths, you are always best off getting a pair. this will enable the male to show off his colours to the female. Rams are ok, beautiful little fish but you have to have near perfect water conditions and nothing that will bully them as they are quite timid fish. This is not always easy to do. I hope this helps.
