I set up a 35 gallon hexagon two days ago and I would like to know if I should put cichlids or livebearers in the tank. The tank has a filter and gravel and thats it. I am waiting to decorate and put a thermometer in there. I don't know if i'll get it soon because my mom is so poor and all she thinks about is money. She would pick the cheap thermometer that will probably break and kill all my fish just because it was "Cheap" so I probably won't get one soon.
So yeah Cichlid or livebearer?? ![]() |

How old are you? you sound like a right little spoilt brat!
If it's your mother who's paying for it all you should be happy that she's even trying for you |

^ lol, thats what i was thinking! Im 14 and we have NO money, and i do my best to pay for EVERYTHING for my tanks, fish, food, everything, except electricity ( it turns out my 3 tanks take up about 500 dollars of our electricity bill!). That tank really isnt suited for cichlids, and if you got one, i would get somethink life 4 Apisrogramma Cacacoudies and some small livebearers, but put a HUGE piece of drift wood int he middle with lots of plants for territory. Your tank is way to tall, but you could always try angels ( you might want to talk to Tolak about angels for that tank).

No not cichlids Im afraid. Also please do not put fish in this tank until its fully cycled (fishless) or you will experience the same problems you are currently having in your 10g.

Definitely definitely definitely not cichlids, the footprint of the tank is way too small for a start to be honest.

Tbh the cost of the thermometer isn’t an issue, most of mine cost £1.95 and they work fine. Only way they are going to break is if you drop them. Unless of course you were thinking of a thermostat heater, but then again they are all similarly priced and as long as it is the right size for your tank i.e. not to small, then it should be ok.
I saw you like balloon fish in another post; you can actually get some balloon Rams which are a dwarf cichlids that would do fine in that tank imo. |
