I use straight tap, cold, with no dechlor. I use a cut down 2l bottle for a hatchery. 2 tablespoons salt, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 2-3 drops of chlorine bleach, and anywhere from 1/4 to 1 teasppon of cysts.
At 80F, with constant light, they are ready in 24 hours. |

They like hard alkaline water, pH of 8.0 works well. Bleach is used to decapsulate bbs, it softens the shells, and adds a bit of disinfectant action to a procedure that can sometimes create bacteria. Since you are vigorously aerating a small volume of water it gasses out in less than 24 hours.
Buddies of mine use acriflavin instead of the bleach, and epsom salt instead of baking soda. I don't like using meds unless I have to, but the guy who uses acriflavn breeds some awesome looking angels. Baking soda is more readily available than epsom salt, either one works well. |
