I want to get some more dwarf pencil fish and amano shrimp to add to my tank but the only spare tank I have (currently empty but I will cycle it soon) is only 3 gallons. Given that by its definition QT is only temporary do think this will be OK in size for 3-4 dwarf pencils and 3-4 amano shrimp? It will have a Fluval 1 + internal filter which I will cycle before adding any fish.

Also, how long is the recommended QT period?

thanks

Minimum of 2 weeks, though the longer the better realy yes.gif

I'd skip the cycling and move some mature media across from an existing filter to "instantly cycle" the new filter. The technical tearm is filter cloning good.gif

If this media is taken from the destination tank, the media will also expose them to any new diseasae that they will encouter in the main tank. This gives them a chance to build an immunity to the infection good.gif

Stocking-wise, it's heavy but doable, if you do some large waterchanges to maintain water stats

yeah I'm gonna clone the filter if I can but not sure how it will work because my mature filter has odd shaped sponges.

Should be able to get a little in there at least.

thanks for the reply. I'm getting on with disinfecting sad tank this weekend so it'll be a little while before its ready for new fish.

Large, regular water changes shouldn't be a problem in such a small tank for such a small time-frame.

I'm thinking 3 to 4 weeks, sound OK?
