evening all!

i have 6 corydoras (sterbai) and they have always been a wonderful sight to see, schooling together and following each other round the tank. But for the past week or two they seem to have gone their seperate ways and no longer stick together as a group. what could have caused this? One seems to hide in the cave all day, another hang out in the submarine and the rest are just kinda dotted around the tank floor.
Also my female used to lay eggs every four days without fail, but lately she doesnt seem to be laying much, maybe just a handful of eggs compared to the 30+ she was laying before.

any ideas people?

theres no sign of illness, they are feeding fine, im just sad to see them looking split up and lonely.

Have there been any changes in the tank? Who are their tank mates? Have any tank mates reached a new maturity? Any water changes? Temp?

How long have you had them?

Pics?

Corys hiding who didn't hide before is always a concern.

But

If she is not sending hormone signals to the males, that will change the behavior of the tank dynamics. Maybe they just ain't as young as they used to be. tongue2.gif She could just be taking a break. Give her some time to rest.

Meantime check all the tank maintenance. Tune up the filter, give the substrate a good cleaning, clean the tank glass and shake out any thick moss or plants. Give it a complete spring cleaning.

Get some new plants. Maybe they are bored.

How about showing them some educational 'adult' videos to get them into the mood? tongue2.gif

Jollysue pretty much covered it all. If the tank is clean and healthy, the corys are well fed and healthy then that's about it. I find that mine do take extended breaks and although I can't swear by it, it appears the weather factors into their laying eggs; low fronts seem to trigger them.

Good luck.
