Hiya all,

We're currently keeping our 2" GSP at 1.006 SG.
All the literature suggests keeping small juvs of this kind of size at around this SG until larger, then increasing it over time, reaching full marine SG at full size.

The question is, is there a specific reason not to increase the SG of his tank until he gets bigger? Is there evidence to suggest why a small juvenile would do less well in higher SG and be better suited to it once fully grown???

In short, would it definitely harm him to increase the SG anymore at this point?

Cheers!

Basically no. The long and the short of it is that GSPs can really handle any SG (within reason) at any time. They're primary fishes derived from the ocean and what little knowledge we have on them being in the sea, many owners keep them in marine tanks as they get older, as nitrate remains lower and you can use things like skimmers.
