I know there are alot of threads on here about stocking small tanks, the normal responses are betta's and dwarf puffers.
I have a 25L with sand substrate, that is currently fishless cycling. I bought it with the intention of having a betta tank, however the filter has abit of current to it that a betta wont like. I know I could go with a sponge filter, but the air pump required would make too much noise, as the tank is in my bedroom. Then I thought a Dwarf Puffer - the tank is perfect for one, however getting my hands on snails would be difficult, as I have none in my main tank. I also read that puffers can be hard to feed, my local LFS (Pets @ Home) only does frozen food, so getting live food could be difficult. So at the minute I am at abit of a loss. Would a small school (6) white cloud mountin minnows be suitable? If not, what would? Bumblebee Gobies seem to have similar feeding habits to puffers (regarding live food) so they are no good either. I dont really *want* shrimps, because I would prefer fish, but if there really arent any other options then I can go down that route. The HOB filter turns over 300lph, so filtration is pretty good.

there are a few options
6 pygmy cories with a sparkling gourami would be nice. maybe even some shell-dwelling cichlids, if you can devise some way of getting enough shells in there.. |

cheers
I'll look into the pygmy cories, I assume they like to be in groups like the other cory species? Which cichlids would like shells? my fish knowledge is limited, so I am only aware of the bigger species of cichlids. If you could give me a few names so I can start my research that would be good regarding shells, Would any sort be ok? I'm sure I could find something on the internet! Not just shotgun shells. lol |

Not just shotgun shells. lol yeah pygmys like to be in larger groups you could keep Neolamprologus multifasciatus... maybe 3-4 females. I think some kilifish can be kept in that size tank, but again i don't know anything about these. |

Killies!
I wanted these for my community tank until I learnt they are a species only fish, having killies suitable for the tank would be nice! hopefully someone will comment on the particular cichlids, or the killies that I can keep in a small tank |

My yellow panchax is doing great in my community tank and there are several others too which are very suitable as upper level fish. Post in the killifish subforum. |

I am fairly decided on pygmy cories now.
Afterall cories are my fave fish! The tank would suit them well I think, what with the substrate being sand! How many could I go for in the tank? 6? 7? I dont plan to add anything else, so they would have the tank to themselves. |

Nice tank, it looks great! Is that plant real?
You can keep endlers in that sort of tank as well, because they tend to stay up the top and cories tend to stay down the bottom. You could get 5-6 pygmy cories and three or four endlers (obviously with the tank very well cycled, taking into account that extra filtration). |
