Hi All! I have a red capped oranda that has been belly up for months now! I have tried feeding it peeled peas, delphia, seaweed salad. I've tried not feeding it, water changes, you name it! It just keeps floating more and more. It's belly is getting rounder and rounder. I would really like to take a syringe and expell some of the air but since I'm not a vet I would never try it! Do you know any way of helping the poor fish? It's been living this way for a really long time! THanks Lisa

i wouldnt do anything just yet, Wilder comes on early some days ( tho not this early) and she will be able to help you if the fish has been a like a while then a few more hours wont hurt ( meant in the nicest possible way).
is this the first time you have asked for advice on the problem or is the advice you had before just not working? dosent sound really nice, but im sorry i cant advise you at all on it,why not PM wilder, then you will have her attention as soon as she comes online? good luck shelagh xxx |

Thanks, I wouldn't do anything drastic. I have asked before and have tried everything that has been sugested and nothing is working. It has been this way for a long time so waiting longer won't hurt. Thank you!

I had a fancy goldfish go the same way I put him down in the end as he was getting more bloated and also came down with septicemia,
He wasn't going to the toilet either. If the fish is not going to the toilet it can be organ failure. Are the scales also sticking out. And red streaking in the fins, or a red belly as usually septicemia sets in and finishes them off. How many gallons is the tank. How many fish and which type. Water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph. |

It's in a 45 gallon tank with four other fish. Scales are not sticking out, no red veins, just big belly. Water stats are: No ammonia, no nitrites, 0.5 nitrates, ph 7.0 I have a under gravel system, an Emperor 280 and a Whisper 60gallon filter. I use amquil plus and novaqua with water changes and clean the gravel about every two weeks. I have two other fish that like to go belly up once in a while but they usually get over it in a couple of days. Other than swimming upside down the fish is still pretty active but I haven't seen anyoen poop in a while 9They may just be fast poopers and I'm not seeing them. I do see some in the tank)

If the fish isn't going to the toilet its not looking good.
Have you tryed a bacterial med.You need to be doing a water change and gravel vac once a week with goldfish are they are massive was producers. Plenty of veg and frozen foods in there diet. Don't over feed blood worms it can bloat them up, I would only recommend them once a week. |
