My betta has pop eye.......again!
he has had it in the past which was never that bad - just slightly abnormal as well as a clouded coating around his eye but i put in aquarium salts and it cleared it up straight away each time. the eye socket around his eye has never been white due to stretching so i always caught it in time.

He was fine yesterday, i saw a slight tinge of white around his other eye - the eye that has never been affected in the past but never thought much because just under his fins he has a slight patch of white showing but i have checked it out and its nothing serious.

But i came back today and his eye is so swollen and clouded, i got a real fright to see him like it - his eye size has doubled and the white marking around his eye is very white now which is stretching.

Is aquarium salts enough to cure him?, i have primafix which someone suggested but unsure if this is the correct one to use for pop eye. all my other fish are healthy *touch wood* and i see no signs on the other fish.
Is it a common illness for bettas?

Sorry to hear about your betta. We had a girl with the same problem and used Myxacin......it worked really well. Also make sure the water is really good and clean and do regular water changes. Do you have him in with other fish? if so it might be worth isolating him.

i check the water levels every 2 weeks as well as doing a 25% waterchange after it and i add all the stress fix etc when changing it.
Its always been a clean tank and none of the other fish have ever bothered him, he's probebly had popeye maybe 4-5 times now over the past 6 months, but i have never seen the effects this quickly, its as if something has triggered it.

i have backtracked what ive done over the past 2 days btu theres been no change to the routine wacko.gif

Will see if i can find some Myxacin. Do you need to isolate popeye - is it contagious?

Thanks xx

Hi
Popeye can be caused by a number of reasons, but is generally a symptom of an underlying problem, e.g. bacteria, viruses and parasites, water quality problems, tumors.

So technically the other fish may also have a problem but may not show as popeye.

I'd treat the whole tank personally.
