MY BGK died last week sad1.gif At least, I can only presume he did as he's nowhere to be found. I think my plec and senegal birchir may have eaten him (after he died - I hope)!!

Before I even consider getting another, I just wanted to check that it wasn't one of the other fish in the tank that killed him. I've never noticed any of them being in the slightest bit aggressive towards him but better safe than sorry.

He was probably about 4 1/2 inches long and shared a tank with:
1 Senegal Birchir (about 4 inches)
1 Plec (about 9 inches)
1 3 spot gourami (about 3 1/2 inches)
1 kissing gourami (about 4 inches)
1 Synodonitis Petricola (3 inches)
1 Ruby Shark (about 3 1/2 inches)
2 Angel fish (about 3 inches each)
and one teeny little zebra loach who won't be caught! lol

Any advice as to whether the tank is safe for a BGK greatly appreciated. I'd had this guy about 8 months and was pretty attached, so wouldn't want to put another one in there only to lose him! sad.gif

the bichir could have attacked and killed him, but wouldn't have been able to eat him, but as you say there are other fish there that would have cleaned up a body: bichir, shark, pleco, synodontis.
he could just be hiding?
have you any small holes anywhere that he could get into?

I've got a sort of faux-cave formation thing in there that he used to hang out in when he was a bit younger. I took everything except that out (my syno lives in there and wouldn't come out and didnt want to take him out the water) and he wasn't hiding anywhere. I suppose he could be in there but I can usually see him through the holes and he hasn't been seen out and about since.

The other thing that makes me thing he's gone is that I did a big water change and he invariably comes out to play in the bubbles when I'm putting the water back in.

If he died would the plec etc be able to eat him so there was absolutely nothing left. He hadn't been missing more than a day and I couldn't find anything!! sad.gif

yes potentially they could have cleaned up everything, though over 1 day is pretty quick.

You might want to check the substrate. Mantis shrimp will hide things in the sand bed, not sure if some fw fish do the same. One of mine even burrowed in the sand a couple times blink.gif .
