Where I got the tank from, they had one set up in the store (this is a fish specialty store), and they had five fish in it... I think they were platys...

Your fish specialty store's main focus is to turn a profit. Of course they will cram 5 platys into a 2.5. They also have resources that you do not, such as many larger tanks to put these fish back into when the males get a little too nippy with the females. They also have more tank space for fry, which will happen when you have 5 platys of which at least 3 should be females.
The most you could safely put in there might be a small group of pygmy corys with a betta. Nobody posting here is making a single cent off of giving you info, your local specialty store is. You are getting good advice for free, with nobody making any money off of you. This is not the case with your local shop. |
