Hi,
Just finished cycling my tank. I have a few plants and I was wondering if using a liquid fertiliser, should I remove the active carbon from the filter? I have been told that the active carbon would destroy the liquid feed.

Thanks
Donnie

if you want to use liquid plant fertilisers like iron fertiliser, then you should remove the carbon from the filter. If you don't the carbon will abosrb the fertiliser from the water and the plants won't be able to get it.

Hi, i'm just starting to cycle my tank and have been and bought some plants as i'm tired of just looking at a chunk of bog wood and some gravel! I've purchased some liquid plant food with iron. Will I need to cycle to tank first before taking out the carbon filter (i have a jewul rekord 96) or would you suggest another type of plant food??

You dont need the carbon element in there all the time, unless you've had an "ill tank" then you can safely run without one.
...come to think of it, Ive not had carbon in my tanks for 20 years ! wink.gif

you can add or remove carbon anytime and it shouldn't affect the filter very much. If carbon has been in the tank for a month then it will have some beneficial bacteria living on it, but there should be plenty of bacteria living on the rest of the filter media.
If the tank is newly set up it isn't going to make any difference if you remove the carbon now.
