Hello Guys
Some of you maybe aware that I bought a "pair" of Blue Rams last week...Well to cut a long story short I wasnt quite sure I had got a male and female.....

I was looking at them tonight and the male seems to be displaying to the other with full fair and colours and doing what I can only describe as a jitterbug movement when "she" is watching him with his body...

Has anyone come across this behaviour before in display/courtship or any other situation with Rams???

I was just abit worried as I have just added 5 full grown cories this morning and they are as big as the Rams! The rams seem to be holding their own though.

I see this type of behaviour all the time with my 5 German Blue Rams. Not exactly sure about it. Seems to be a pecking order and one decides to challenge the other. They really brighten up too. Can anyone enlighten us?

Sounds like you have Asian bred German Blue Rams. They will often look very colorful in stores because they are pumped with all kinds of hormones which make them very weak and sensitive. Most asian bred rams die within the first 2 months of introduction. Hopefully you don't have asian rams.

Most tropical fish tend to lose coloring at night. I've noticed my rams show darker coloring when I turn on the lights the next day, sometimes they appear with greyish patches.

Mine seems to be the exact opposite..they colour up at night and are more active.

If I leave the light on in the day and make a sudden move they dart away into a hidey hole or fade in colour....obviously still quite stressed about the move.
