Nice oscars again, I couldn't imagine keeping fish tanks and not having oscars at some point. My camera's on charge, but when its done I should be uploading pictures of most of my fish, including the oscar and tankmates.
I remember when I first had oscars (RIP), they were my favourite fish but unfortunately died about 2 years ago, really took a blow when they went within a few weeks of each other, I remember when I asked my brother to feed them, so he was dangling a worm into the tank and one of them ignored the worm and grabbed his thumb, he let out a rare scream, I was laughing, but he was more concerned about with how it had drawn blood Are those real or fake plants you got in their tank? |

i couldnt imagine being without them now,as i said in another post, nothing is too much trouble when it comes to this pair, daily water changes ( which i would normaly hate) but i know oscars are prone to HTH so i feel obliged to do it for them, and they dont get stroppy after it so thats kool and its a pleasure to do it, god knows what i will be like if anything happend to them anyway looking forward to the pics, can you send me a link to the page,or put it on here, otherwise i may miss them shelagh xxx |

i have wanted to own oscars since forever well after getting a 48x15x18, i have finaly got them, they are tiger oscars,i havent named them yet, but would be a shame not too,as my god they are little people!!! i got them yesterday, had to leave them in the shop and come home and re-organise the tanks, but went back and when i got them home put them in a smaller tank just over night, with new plants that i got for them, a stick on thermometer as a pose to the glass one that was in there.. good job too! ![]() i have done tonnes of reading up on them, but if other oscar owners have any " from experience advice" id more than happy to hear it shelagh xxx |

well these boyz are really growing, they are now on a diet of shrimp, cichlid sticks ( staple),peas,
i have just sat through an hour of boring tv ( all about diets so of no interest lol) and watched the oscars, while filling my face with a bag of crunchie nuggets- aw the joy... anyway.. buddie is the playfull one, and jambo is the one with the sense.. thats the way i have it figured while buddie is playing silly buggers in the bubble curtain, jambo is trying to keep the convicts just where he wants them (( or at least that is what they let him think)) buddie has also learnt that he can make the plec ( 6 inches long) jump out and back into the tank after asking for advice on here i am going to try to introduce the 2 larger clown loaches into the tank with the oscars and convicts tommorow, im home all day so any trouble and ill be right in there with a net!! this way i will have all my favorite fish ,and come to think of it all the nutters in one place. and will be absolutly over the moon if they get on, then maybe i will put the 2 smaller ones in too, if all goes well.. tho i have a feeling it will go brilliantly- would love to get the clowns out of the tank they are in at the moment as its not very tall, and they love to swim the height of it, theres lots of hiding places in there so they will have plenty of cover should they need it im still with the internal filters at the moment, tho not by choice, so it means daily water changes, and sand vacs, but they dont sulk anymore, havent done in a while, think they just accept its going to happen now,so put up with it, they have started totally demolishing the plants in the tank- i knew it would happen.so i have very rough hands at the moment as they seem to be in and out of the tank or sink all day long, replanting or washing them after doing so but their personalites are really shining thru now, they are a little bit upset at the fact that i have had to put a hood on the tank ( for the plecs sake) as i means no more in between meal snacks, as its too much hassle taking the lid off etc, so they are forever on the look out for me walking by the tank and they put their little fins togerther and pray that its feeding time.. again! which lets face it with these 2 it usually is. i had jambo chasing the roots of a plant round the tank tonight, like a rabbit after a hare, i was meant to be replanting it but got carried away with the moment, im surprised he didnt get my arm lol, he was determined he wanted it, only thing was then,i was a bit nervous when i did plant it ,and made my son wiggle his fingers in the other side of the tank to distract him.. and what do you know, i still had 5 fingers when i had finished anyway this is the story till now, and i love them more than ever shelagh xxx This post has been edited by shelaghfishface: May 19 2008, 09:54 PM |

well i added the clown loaches 2 days ago, there was a bit of chsing from the oscars and the clowns look like they were going to run out of breath, i wondered shall i take them out???, i added a few more pots in there instead and have to say its all going beautifully, the oscars have seen that the clown loaches wont play their game anymore so its all settled down nicely, the clowns seem to love the sand in the tank too, in the other tank they had gravel, and they are loving the height of the tank too, its really nice to see everyone sooo happy in there, tho one of them has taken either a total dislike to or fallen in love with 1 plant in particular, its a java fern -a small one, and as soon as i replant it, within 10 mins its floating again....
