so tell me whats going on then you clever lot! smile.gifsmile.gif

Hi Swansea Shelagh. x

I have a pair of convicts and they are the boss of the tank. (6x2x2) Providing you give them their own territory, then most cichlids will be fine. Once the hirachy has been established, and the convicts have their own space, they will defend it to the death, but they wont go looking for trouble. (get my drift).
Convicts' appearance do change during adulthood slightly. One thing I have noticed with mine is that when they are ready to breed, the males eyes will have a blue twinkle about them. this I think is to seduce the female and get her in the mood. Other changes go on such as rosy cheeks you are talking about, and swimming very close together. Their nest is sacred soil.
The digging is nest building so that is normal.

Hope that helps.

Emma

(Had a Rossi's for dinner x)

Convict tankmates depend on the size of the tank they are in. Though a true pair will need to have a substantial tankmate to handle the beating.
