hey guys got this lil fella a while ago but never knew the species name

i know he is a goby but that is it lol

Stiphodon sp. probably stiphodon atropurpureus.

Doesn't look like Stiphodon atropurpureus to me. Atropurpureus has a very defined line that runs down it's body, which doesn't seem evident in your picture. Your goby also doesn't look as elongated as a Stiphodon.

Your unlikely to get a better ID than Stiphodon, there is very little species information and definitive photos available in literature and on the net.

I dont suppose it was called a Red lightning goby was it? It looks identical to a species ive seen around being sold as that one.

The female does, the one above is a male.

Still doesn't look like it to me. The colors aren't the same, and the pictured goby doesn't have the Stiphodon shape.

Here is a male Stiphodon atropurpureus. I bought some of these incorrectly ID'd, I spent a long time searching for an ID, this is definitely the closest I got.
