hi, I can try to help. I'm learning too! I've been reading about cichlids for about 4 mo. now.

I'm not sure that demasoni and ice blue zebra and kenyi would go together. Demasoni is HIGHLY aggressive and i think the other two species may look too much like them(depending on which kenyi you go with). C. Afra's also get black vertical stripes and they are blue. The demasoni may not like that too much either.

Which fish do you absolutely have to have? you could stock around those.

Scolofi

And the catfish

This sounds easy enough! Also I think the yellow labs and acei should work too!

I'm not sure about pleco's and catfish since they both take up the bottom portion of the tank...although I've been thinking about it myself! What do you think....dawn, ferris, darrel, etc? Am I guiding ace of spades right? What do you think about plecs and cats together?

Sorry guys, your guess is as good as mine crazy.gif Ive not very much experience with plecs nor catfish... Ive not seem them together before, i dont think.

Kj's right though, your 'demand' list is rather easy to work around...

Scolofi
Afra
Syno

I cant see anything wrong with adding these also...

Acei
Yellow Labs
Ice Blue Zebra

Like i said im not sure about adding the pleco with the syno. Also, i cant see anything wrong with adding the demasoni or kenyi if you really wanted too. I know they're aggressive, especially the kenyi, but your tank size is considered minimum by most for the the likes of kenyi.

Hio hows it going,

Demasoni will be fine with those fish, its only really agressive to its own kind, I keep the ice blue (greshakis i presume) with my kenyis and demasoni and its all good, the greshakis and kenyis always battle for top spot rolleyes.gif . although I dont like the kenyi very much so I think its going back.

Only thing is with demasoni, you can only really add 1 or a group of like 10-12 if you just have like 2 or 3 of them they will nail each other to death.

Most Syno's and Plecs are usually fine together and tend to pay each other very little attention provided you don't overstock the bottom level with them. good.gif

I agree the Kenyi are very aggressive, I had 2 males and a female in a 200 gallon tank and they were terrorizing it, so I went out and bought 3 more females for them, well these females are now turning yellow...lol, I'm going to have to take them back, although since I've added more fish they seem to have calmed down a bit.

Ive never had good luck with kenyi. They will be fine for a year then just tear my tank to pieces. I dont think the afra would care for an aggressive fish like the kenyi either. If you really do want kenyi.. i would only go with 1 male and maybe 3 females to spread the aggression out. Even then it might not work out.. but if you plan on going with the afra I wouldnt do them at all.. A good Syno species to look into getting are petricola or syno multipunctatus.. Both very beautiful fish. I have 6 of the petricola in my 55 gallon. Best addition i think i have ever done. They are constantly chasing each other around the tank.
