I have 2 males and 1 female mickey mouse platy. The girl I bought yesterday and the boys I bought Friday. I would like to breed my platies but I have a few questions first. What should my tank size be if I have 3 platies and a goldfish that is 1 and a half inch long? What should I do about breeding too? Can I breed them without a net or trap?

1. You really should have 1 male to every 2-3 females so the females dont get harrased.

2. you need at least a 20G tank to breed them and heavily planted for fry to hide in.

3. goldfish is cold water and platies are tropical, really dont want to keep together as tropical require a heater as platies like temp at 26C

4. You can use a trap to house the mother til she drops, this way you save more fry.

5. Platys drop fry every 4-6 weeks so a extra 10G tank for the fry to grow in would be good as you will have lots of fry to cope with.

dont jump in head first, have a really good think about it cos there is a lot to consider when breeding fish..

Anymore questions feel free to ask

yep, would deffinatly avoid mixing the goldfish with them... at higher temps goldfish are more likely to get disiese etc, so its not good for them...

also they will get a lot bigger than the sword tails so could turnout very badly
