Moved my kit from the D-D 24g Nano to the RSM on Thursday (live rock, live sand, water) but the green star polyp hasn't opened at all since. Could it be dead? I know they are temperamental and it's stayed closed for a day after water changes before. But there doesn't seem to be any life in it thus far. How do I know if it is well and truly dead? Does the purple mat change colour in any way?

My GSP took near on two weeks to adjust fully to my tank when I got it (Remained fully closed for about 8 days). They are very hardy apparently and will remain closed for a long time if distressed in anyway. Make sure the water parameters are optimised and put them in a nice spot where it should stay for a week at least. My GSP has these 'vents' which open and close if response to a whole range of things, particularly particulate matter. Have a look and see if yours has them and if they are responding to the water current at all. If they are then it is very much alive. Another thing is look at the over all condition of the coral if it has bits falling off and has changed colour to yellowy orange-browns-and-black then that is death creeping in.
Best of luck and hope this helps Regards |

Thanks for that.So far the GSP mat is still the regular purple colour and no orange/black elements.
