I just got a young pair of pearl gouramis one male one female. The've been in my tank for about 2 1/2 days now and my female is eating fine while my male the first time I fed them ate fine but now won't eat? They're in a 30 gal with 8 danios, 4 neons, 1 swordtail, and 4 loachs I do weekly water changes and test and everything is in its prime. Could it be that he is still adapting or is there somthings wrong or the danios are to active and stressing him out?

Water stats would be good in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Does the male gourami look pale or darker in colour, is he being listless and lethagic.

Well I looked at him more closely and his right side eye is foggier then the other. Could this be that he has cloudy eye?, his other eye looks so much cleaner. Unforchanitly I don't think I have meds for this so while I'm looking on the web are there any way to treat this easily. He seems to be swimming in mid water out and about but he'll just sit there while the other fish go around him. So could this be the cause he hasnt been eating?

Cloudy eye is a symtom of a desease not a desease in its own rights.
Causes.
Bad water quality.
Stress.
Poor diet.
Irratation.
Old age.
Parasites.
Bacterial.

Well he's not old, its not parasites because I treated them for that, Its not proazons. It my be irratation, stress, not eating, and possibly bacteria. I use this stuff called "Cycle" which is benifical bacteria and eats up nitrates but I havn't used it for a month and theres no way to overdose it. But I'm worried even if they are a hardy species. I'm going to do a 30% water change and add some salt since that seems to be the most effective way and says to do that on most sites.

Does he look stressed.
What are your present water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.

Amonia is 0, PH is 7.2, and nitrates are very low. I now remember seeing him scraching his eye softly on my smooth rock when I first got him thinking it was ick at first. Right now hes just sitting in the middle of the tank and slowly moving around. I did my water change with salt and it looks a bit better but maybe his eye was irritated when I got him? So are there any homemade remedies like more salt or should I look for meds when I get the chances? He just seems to move slowly and won't eat and its only 1 of his eyes but his color has improoved since I've had him.

Give him a few more days.
If his colours improved thats a good sign.

My pearls took about 2 weeks to act normal. they ate on and off ok. would just sit at the top slowly breathing and not reacting to my presence at all. they seem to like stability. mine hate water changes. takes them a hour or two to move around again but other from that they are active and happy now.

I was very worried at first. it might just be a waiting game.

Thanks for letting me know bout that. There kinda like my children I care about so much. Thats what my males been doing is just sitting at the top unforchantly He does have cloudy eye or somthing like that cause he'll rub on something every once and awhile but he dosn't mind the other fish now and still has good color. On the other hand my female is just a queenie now since she's the other biggest fish.
