Snails will breed like rabbits. I am assuming you meant fish, not inverts though. Many cichlids are easy to breed, but get very aggressive. My golden wonder killies breed with no triggers, and don't get aggressive when they breed. But they also show no brood care, so you probably won't get very many survivors. Is there anything in particular that you want to breed?

Danios are easy to breed egg laying fish. You can find fry in ur syphon bucket! But if your looking to breed fish that have interesting breeding behavior then look into cichlids. (however, most cichlids cant live in ur 45 lt tank. ur tank can work as a breeding thank though. (if it is your only tank then small egg spraying fish would work as long as u have substrate or moss for the eggs to be sprayed into) (they eat their own eggs as they come out T_T

I am ashamed to say the 45 litre is my biggest and i have a 6 gallon that i put my pregnant livebearers in.
They are both in my room, and the 45 litre already has quite a few fish in, and the 6 gallon atm has 2 pregnant guppies but after breeding livebearers alot it gets boring i would like to have something which is abit of a challenge o cant afford another tank as i am only 16. Thanks for the help |

Thanks for the help Convict Cichlids are easy to breed but they wouldn't go well with the livebearers obviously. I had sucess with Siamese Fighters and they threw out eggs every few weeks. A little harder to bring the babies up though but I done nothing with the convicts out the ordinary. |

I know what I'd have a go at with your tank.
Have you seen the Galaxy Rasbora? I think they are great. They cost abit though, I think they are £2.50 each on Trimar but I'm sure you would stand a good chance with a well planted tank and 6 of them and I doubt you would have problems gettid rid of them for a little cash with your local fish shop. |

well if you are looking for a little difference, you could try to breed Bettas as Who-Izzet suggests. Get a male and female and you should house them in different containers until they are ready to breed. Feed them lots of good food and put them together provided that there is room for the female to hide. The male builds a bubble nest near the surface so either turn down your filter intake or provide some floating plants that will keep the bubble nest together. (your 5 gallon could serve that purpose). Be warned, bettas lay a lot of eggs!!! since you don't have a bigger tank, they will all died unless you remove most of the fry. its not very nice but u def cant support 200+ fry in a 45 liter. Its hard to keep the babies alive too...but u can experience their unique bubble nest breeding behavior. If you want the fry to survive, i would just save a few. They would have a better chance of growing up. But if that sound cruel to you, then i wouldn't suggest breeding anything else besides guppies and small egg spraying fish in your limited tank space. And no, don't try convicts because they need at least a 20 gallon for a breeding pair.

Siamese Fighters (Bettas), yes. Be sure to read up on them first. Angels - no. They wouldn't even breed in your 45l.

ok thanks alot is there any links you would reccomend? I asked alot of questions on here along time ago and got all the correct answers, perhaps you could start a thread in the Betta's forum. They are amazing to watch, the male will curl around the female when spawning. Make sure you have a well planted tank and some floating plants like water lettuce work well. The male will likely chase and bite the female, this is why the plants are needed, although I had the opposite. My female was deffinately the one in the trousers. I turned my filter off and added one which works through oxygen pipe. Plenty of small water changes too and baby brine shrimp for the babies when they get bigger. I fed mine liquidfry earlier on after they eaten the eggs and egg yolk which I got with one of those pipettes. I had to take the parents out because the male got a taste for them when picking them up. I used some meth blue to keep the eggs clean and drop the water level to around 3 inches deep worked well because they are labrynth fish and they need to get to the surface. There will be someone on here with loads more experience than me, dare I say 100's. Great experience though. I'd love to do it again with crown's or something really different but I don't get good options of fish were I live. Goodluck mate. This post has been edited by who-izzet: Feb 25 2008, 10:33 PM |
