So I have a 20 gallon high aquarium and I am thinking of doing a single German blue ram as a centerpiece with a small school of black phantom tetras and something for the bottom of course

blue rams will hang out on the bottom and don't get very big, about 2inches.
Get a pair of them and have a cave with the entrance facing the front. Then the fish can breed and you can see the eggs and fry being cared for by the adults. That makes a nice centre piece, mum, dad & babies. |

Oh I'd rather have a community tank than a pair of rams though...

you can still have a community tank with a pair of rams. Have a school of black phantoms, a pr of rams, a group of pygmy corys and a couple of small algae eating catfish.

everything but the bristlenose sounds good. B/nose aren't big fish but they make a lot of mess.
dwarf corys would be a better choice than peppered but peppered would be alright as long as you keep and eye on water quality. |

Ok how about this?
~1 German Blue Ram ~7-8 Black Phantom Tetras (I have 3 currently but they are the only fish in the tank) ~3-4 khuli loaches ~5 pencilfish or 3 male guppies (could I reduce the pencilfish numbers? I don't want to overstock my tank...) Get rummy noses, and a betta! and the ram of course. cuple of corys. I already got the phantoms though...and rummy noses aren't very hardy |
