Ok I've had an outbreak of ICH in my 260ltr tank but I have an elephant nose in it.

Done lots of googling and search of these forums.

I have come up with two products that may (or may not) fit the bill.

The first is Ick Guard II, and the second is Quick Cure.

Has anybody seen either of these products in the UK?

The best one seem to be Ick Guard II as it states it is for weak and scaleless fish here http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...amp;pcatid=4709 . Quick cure states that it should not be used to treat EN fishes at this link http://www.aq-products.com/APpro/quickcure.htm but articles I've read on the net says that half doses have been completely successful with them!

Ick Guard II is available in the states but the supplier I contacted wanted $91 just for shipping. I may be old fashioned but I just thought it a little on the expensive side.

3 or four fish are showing symptoms and I want to treat it before it really takes hold.

I'm currently trying to catch Nellie (the elephant nose) to put her in my 70lt with the intention of treating the 260 without her in then putting her back once treatment is complete. However she is a real nightmare to catch. I have lots of plants, bogwood and roots in the tank and the net snags everything!

I didn't really want to do this anyway and stress her any more than I needed as I know they are delicate fish and this was the last thing I wanted to do.


So... last ditch attempt to find something I can dose the entire tank with.

Just a quick update. Nellie let her guard down after the lights went out and I've managed to transfer her to the smaller tank and have started meds on the big 'un.

Panic over but would still like to know if I can get this stuff in the UK please!

If you can't get the meds in the uk you want for scaless fish, you just half dose with whitespot med.
Need to increase aeration in the tank as high temp and med reduce 02 in the water, find once there plenty of aeratiion in the tank scaless fish seem to tolerate the med better.

I've got some King British White Spot control but not enough to fully treat the tank so I'm using Interpet No. 6 at the mo. This specifically states that it should not be used with Mormyrids (the King British doesn't mention this exclusion) so do you think that half dose of either of these would be ok. I've used the King British at half dose for some small clowns that I have and it was fine but never tried the No6 with them or the EN.

I would start on the king british med then at half dose, buy some more.
If the interpet meds says not to use with certain fish I wouldn't take the risk of using it.
Don't know anything about elephant noses, have you asked about then if the right section of the forum.
I wish I had got my head down and learned about fish types, but it just dosn't interest me.

Before using medications with ultra sensative fish try heat treatment instead, i have successfully treated whitespot using just heat when fish in the tank that houses my stingrays had it.

You have to get the tank to 31c and keep it there for two weeks without the temperature dropping at all, the parasite that causes whitespot cannot survive its planktonic stage at temperatures above 29c so once all the tommites (white spots) have entered the free swimming stage the tank will be free of the disease. Because water carries less free oxygen the warmer it is you will have to add some extra aeration to the tank to get the gas exchanges at the surface going faster so you should add a large airstone connected to a decent sized air pump.

I'm treating using interpet at the mo and have started to raise the temp as well. Large airstone and high capacity pump running so fingers crossed. Nellie is still in the 70ltr so should be a straight forward ich treatment (famous last words eh?).
