On the whole, sea stars tend to die of starvation. You stand a better chance at survival if you have a large tank, but, for the most part, many do poorly. Many of them have a diet of sponges which are not kept in our tanks. The real problem though, is that when they die, they disintegrate very quickly and they really can much up your tank..if not nuke it. Many boast about having them successfully yet only having owned them for a few months.

Think twice about adding one to your tank.
