Hello all,

I am building a fiddler crab habitat, and have a few logistical questions.

I want to use sand as a substrate, but am worried about clogging my filter. Is there a good type of filter that I can use with sand? I can't use the hang-on-back variety due to my need for a land area.

I'm thinking that the best way of doing this is to build a sloping wall using that plastic mesh you can find at walmart, and then covering it with sand. I would mix sand with glue to get it to stick. Has anyone done any work with that sort of thing? What sort of glue should I use?

As far as installing the wall temporarily- as this is a class project, what can I use to secure it? I've used tank repair silicone before, but I'm thinking more along the lines of a hot glue gun or something that can be peeled off.

I also need to hide the filter as best as possible- so maybe I'll make use of that home-made sponge filter and make it on the smallish side so that I can hide it behind a rock.

I want the sand to be burrow-able, and also to add some plants- any ideas of good, grassy-type plants I can use?
