Hello all, just a quick question. We have 4 angelfish in a 55 gallon, along with 4 platies, 4 swordtails, and 6 cories. Also, 1 rubberlip plec (his name is Angelina!!). 2 of the angels "appear" to have paired off, they are always, always together. They are still pretty young though, only about silver dollar size. Anyway, last night I noticed one of those 2 going after my plec whenever he ventured into the right side of the tank. He now has a small scrap on his nose. They don't go after the cories and they go over to that side all the time, and I certainly don't see any eggs anywhere, but I thought they were still a little young for that anyway. Is this "precourting" behaviour, or does my angelfish have a bit of an attitude?

QUOTE(LaurieLou @ Mar 21 2007, 05:05 PM) Hello all, just a quick question. We have 4 angelfish in a 55 gallon, along with 4 platies, 4 swordtails, and 6 cories. Is this "precourting" behaviour, or does my angelfish have a bit of an attitude? Does sound a bit like turf war with the courting couple. Perhaps they are taking the pee out of a fella called Angelina! Question.. are the angelfish claiming an area of the tank where the plec spends a fair amount of time. If this is the case, then a small rearrangement of the tank may be in order to ensure that defined areas are available for different fish to claim as their own. So if the plec has a favourite bit of bogwood in the area where the angelfish are spending their time, perhaps it could be moved. Squid This post has been edited by Squid: Mar 21 2007, 05:19 PM |

No, that's the strange thing. The plec actually spends most of his time on a piece of wood on the left side of the tank. Up until the last 18 hours or so, the angels have been all over the tank, now they seem to spend a little more time in the rear right, although they don't bother the cories at all, and they are all over that area. It's almost like they have just decided they don't like poor Angelina...maybe it's his name!! It almost feels like its grade school in there!

Plecs are great at eating angel spawns, the angels probably sense that.
