Hi.. i notice that everyone is measuring their tanks in gallons/litres but im unsure about the size of mine.

The tank is 36" across. 12" across. 18" deep.

Thanks!

Also, would I be able to house a plec in this tank (spotted that could possibly grow 15-18" although only in a very big setup i think)

I make that about 33US Gallons.

Depends on what sort of plec, common plec's get to 12-18inches long and will need a tank around 4'x2'x2

however there are loads of plecs that don't get anywhere near that big so you should be able to find soemthing to suit your tank if you really want one.

Your tank is approx 0.9m x 0.3m x 0.45m which is around 121 litres (Theres a 1000 litres in a cubic metre)

There is 4.546 litres in a UK gallon, therefore your tank is 26 UK gallons.

There are around 1.2 US gallons in a UK gallon, therefore your tank is 31.2 US gallons

Hope this helps good.gif good.gif

In google you can actually type in

36 inches x 12 inches x 18 inches in uk gallons

and it will do all the maths for you.

Works in most units of measure.

They don't grow according to the size of the tank - though a tank that is too small will cause a slow-down in growth and stunting. Which is not good no.gif

"Plec" is just a generic name that can be applied to many catfish of varying shapes and sizes - but if you are talking about any of the common catfish (Hypostomus plecostomus) or sailfin catfish (Glyptoperichthys gibbiceps) , then yes, they can reach that size and is not at all suitable for a tank of your size.

Hi matchstickgeezer smile.gif

A conversion calculator is a handy thing to have, since many of the members use different units of measure.

Here's a link to the one I use the most:
