i broke my wrist on tuesday (thankfully i had done the week's water changes monday) and i'm worried about getting my water changes done. anyone had this problem before? or have any suggestions? I have maybe one person i can ask to help me out with this, but i would feel bad having them come out every week for a month and a half if this is something i can get done myself.

jus use a big jug or if its a big tank then a hose?

or you could use a jug to empty then put a bucket on something higher than the tanks and get a siphon going cos i think pouring a bucket might be a bit hard.

Boy, does this bring back memories of a smashed finger at work, the two most boring months of my life. Try a pond pump with a length of hose for draining & filling. Drain the tank into a bucket, bring it outside, and kick the bucket over. Fill the bucket, and fill the tank using the pump. It helps to put the bucket on a chair. I am so glad I did my finger when I only had a couple of tanks years ago.

just a thought, but over here i can get a little pump you attach to a drill cost from £1-£5 which may help. or a "marigold" (rubbber kitchen glove) to extend the length, tape a plastic carrier bag to the top. be sure to tape it to the outside though or water will get in.

You know, I hate to hijack this a little, but I've got leg problems, and for a good week or two, I've got to use a cane cry1.gif . You figure all the things you suggested would still work?

I pinched a nerve in my left elbow and had no feeling in three fingers for a while so I could't really hold on to anything in that hand so I used my gravel vac. I wedged it's hose under the hood, Placed my bucket on a chair and siphoned that way. Then I put the bucket in the tub and knocked it over. Takes longer but it gets done; though for larger tanks that would be alot of exercise and very time consuming. Sometimes though I can convince one of my older kids to help (bribery does wonders).

A python, a piece of equipment that makes water changing quick an easy. It's like a long hose that drains the tank and attachs to the taps to fill the tank back up.
