Hi
Just a quick Question!!!! Got a 100 gal tank and at the weekend I took everything out replaced the coral gravel with coral sand and replaced the rocks. So the tank layout has completely changed. My two morriis( Both fully grown about 8 inch) have always been peaceful. The bigger one is the boss of the tank and does a bit of chasing but nothing bad. Since I have changed the tank around the smaller morrii has taken over and has turned real nasty. Chasing the bigger morri that much that he is hiding in one corner. The other fish get hell it's well. I don't understand that a real peaceful fish I had for about 2 years has turned this nasty. I have changed my other tanks around before and this has never happened. Any suggestions ??? Thanks Sabby |

I heard that some fish mark thier terratories by rocks and that sort. Mabye when u rearranged it all your other morriis claimed it all as its terratory and is being over protective about it.

I would give it some more time if you can, they are simply trying to establish new territories following the change in setup and things could well settle down. Obviously this depends on how bad the aggression is but these things often work themselves out.
Just a thought. |

When I change my 55 around my bully becomes very aggressive, sometimes it takes him a couple of hours, sometimes a couple of days, to settles down.

Sometimes it's possible to reduce bullying by reducing the amount you feed the fish for a while.
The argument goes that if the fish are too busy looking for food they won't be so concerned about aggression - but when they are well fed they have the time and energy to devote to more destructive efforts. (Bit like some of the kids nears me during the holidays |

Yea you deffo need to leave them to re-establish themselves can take a couple of weeks.
Moori's are not overly aggressive fish and i can see no reason why things wont go back to how they were, or at least the little one will be the boss instead You have really nice healthy looking fish there i can see no point in giving it to the local pet shop for them to make money out of your problem that should go away. Iv experienced it and its not nice but with my experience iv learnt that it will subside/go away, give it time. |

QUOTE(Ginge @ Jun 8 2006, 08:37 AM) Can i ask how many moriis you have because i seem to be able to see 4??? Hi Ginge I got the two bigger ones than I have three smaller ones about 4inch. One female is in the spare tank with her babies. Never had any problems before. r1loyd It's been nearly a week now nothing has changed. I will give it another week or two. It is chasing everything in the tank. The fish hardly come out of hiding only for feeding. If I have to give it to my LFS it will go in there 6x3x3 Cichlid Display Tank .One of my other fish is in there already. Know the Manager he is good gives you a good price for your fish. Suppose it's wait and see. Thanks for everybody's advise. Will keep you updated if he will stay or go !!!!!! Sabby |

Hi All
Just to update all of you that gave me advise. The Bully is gone and I have peace in my tank once again. Had no choice the other fish were getting to stressed and to many injuries. Went to see him at my LFS in there big display tank and he seems to be ok in there. So I still get to see him every week and I got three fish in exchange of him. Thanks again Sabby |

That sounds like a deal
Iv got a problem with my Yellow lab which is trying to breed and attacking my other fish which are worth like 3 times the price of him! My tank was nice and peaceful till i started giving advice on other peoples then mine turned into a crazed tank So think ill be getting shot of all my yellow labs, never mind anything for a quiet life! |

You've been unlucky there rl1oyd, a killer yellow lab is a rare thing especially with some of the more aggressive fish you have there. Just goes to show that keeping Malawi's and cichlids in general is never straightforward, although i think thats part of the appeal.

Not bullying but being very terratorial as he wants to breed, mainly my Zaire Blue frontosa which as everyone knows are a shy fish,
and a few of my big Haps (not got the name of them it's written down at home) I have a large 5 ft Juwel tank and iv just aquired Juwel 360 litre corner tank so im splitting them all up in the near future and getting rid of my Yellow Labs. |

Hi rl1oyd That's funny, my Yellow Labs never bother anything in my tank even when they are breeding. And I never ever had any problems with Morriis until two weeks ago. Just goes to show there is always exceptions to the rule. Sabby |
