The best pet store in my area in a chain store called "feeders supply" and I never see a dead fish in the tank and never see any sick fish either and they keep the tanks really clean to also I've never had a fish die from them. Another great pet shop that isn't in my area but have been to a few times called "greentree pet center" but its locally owned and they have almost every fresh water fish that I know of and they have several saltwater tanks to and also never seen a dead or sick fish and the tanks are kept really clean.

Bawtry store near Doncaster, good advice when i first started fish keeping and i wanted a rosy barb and he said it would nip the guppies tails, good to customers who are loyal and keep going to them, plus get store credit.

Whe i goe to my dad's house in atlanta i always go to The Fish Store and More. It is a great fish store and all their employees except one know everything about the fish. I don't know why they say more because everything in the shop is about fish except one poison frog vivarium.

Maidenhead Aquatics in Bridgford. Excellent service and quality. The staff know what there talking about, the only down side is the prices, they are slightly higher than most other stores.
But im sure by tommorow evening I will have a different view, I think im going to wharf aquatics in Pinxton, the man said he was open tommorow even though its bank holiday, so im really looking forward to it! |

I've heard good reports about wharf aquatics not far from me, and they have won awards.

Im sure I will be impressed, but if we admit it, all fish stores are going to make mistakes, I haven't visited one yet where I agree with everything they do. |

There's a tie for me, between The Aquarium Center in Randallstown, MD, or That Fish Place in Lancaster, PA. Both have very knowledgable staff, lots of supplies, and healthy fish, even some rare ones.

My favorite shop is Maidenhead Aquatics just outside Oxford. Its huge and its got loads of tanks all full of exciting fish. Its realy clean as well and the service is great the staff even now what they are talking about. Its my favorite maidenhead because they always have lots of catfish in of all sorts corys, L numbers and synos etc.

DI Tropicals in Lossiemouth, NE Scotland.
They have a guy in there who knows a good deal on fish. They have coldwater, tropicals and salt water fish. Their tanks are immaculate and all fish look to be in good health. They wouldn't sell me a couple of swortails because they said they were unwell. looking at the fish, I could not see signs of disease or ill health. They give great advice, they're very helpful and nice and prices are average. I love going to their shop...only prob is that it takes an hours drive from where I live. I asked them if they would open a shop in the city where I live as they have a lot of customers that take the drive over but the rates are too expensive where I stay. Bummer. |

Update:
Wharf Aquatics - Pinxton. Best ever shop I have visited, here is the short write-up I posted in the Catfish section: "I have been to Wharf Aquatics (when I was outside I thought it was tiny!), and it was massive inside with different sections for hardware, frozen foods, tropical, coldwater and ponds, marine, and reptiles! I end up buying my 3 extra bronze corys (1 definate female within the 3). I also purchased to thin catfish that have been described as 'Snail Eaters', I will try and get a picture up for identification later. My only other purchase was 2 Rams, we were told by knowledgeable staff that the species we purchased will grow to no more than 3-5 inches, and is a community fish. They had a few Gold Nugget Plecs in stock, but they ranged for £26.50 for a small upto £40 for a 5". I refuse to pay prices like that, So I think the £26.00 for a large from my LFS is a better deal. I recommend anyone to make the trip to Wharf Aquatics, it really is a great day out and all the fish are healthy. The staff have great knowledge on all the fish (one man was taking a college course on Aquatics in general). The only problem I found was they had an 18" Pleco in a 2 foot tank and its tail was curled up against the glass, however the staff all assured me it was only a temporary home. Definately the best Fish Suppliers I have ever visited, they gets a big This post has been edited by Fishkeeper2006: Jan 2 2006, 03:48 PM |
