Now I know fish have excellent eyesight, but I feel more like playing the Twilight Zone theme here....
The 29 gallon and the 10 gallon tanks sit across from each other, about 7 feet apart in a relatively small room. The larger 7 mollie fry are in the bigger tank, the smaller 5 in the 10 gallon. The other day I come in and one of the smaller mollies in the bigger tank is completely ignoring the new food and is zipping up and down the glass of the tank frantically, for all he's worth saying I want out of there. On a whim I put him over in the 10 gallon, as he's not that big. He goes quite still, calmly looking around. This is where it goes into cute but what the heck territory! One of the tinier mollie fry, 1/3 his size, comes dashing up in an absolute frenzy of excitement and does everything but shake fins, showing all the signs of happy recognition. Big brother? Big sister? Who knows, but that younger one stayed right with the bigger one after that like a remora to a shark. And the bigger one? After the frenzy in the other tank? Calm and peaceful as a summer's morning and very happy thank you very much, with the younger fry just dancing all round him. Just when I think I have fish figured out they do something like that. Go figure...and yes, there were already 5 other mollie fry that mollie youngster could have schooled with. And don't tell me it was just getting frisky, it's not even out of fishy diapers yet. |

On angel tanks with pairs I have to put background material (black plastic garbage bags) on 3 sides if there are tanks near by. They want to kill anything in an ajoining tank, they'll brain themselves repeatedly on the side of the tank.
I have to do the same with tanks with larger angels with fry tanks next to them, they are looking for food & try to get through the tank. I've seen pairs eye another tanks across the room, I guess they are just making sure the fish across the room keep their distance. Tolak |

Heh, this reminds me of a story. I had my betta in a 5 gallon (now divided) and a betta in a one gallon. My betta in the five gallon kept on wanting to get in the one gallon. Not because of the fish. No, cause when I put him in the divided tank, he was still trying to get in there!
