so...

fishless cycling - will it hurt plants in the tank?

to tell you the truth im not actually adding any ammonia yet simply because it just wont go down. i added more gravel which wil most likely start the cycle again but even still the ammonia levels spiked! im a little confused to say the least...

anyway v. quck question...

the ammonia level is 2.4 - can i add plants?

im about to run off to the local pet shop in a little while so any advice would be great biggrin.gif

also do i need those little pellets to feed the plans?

thank you everyone for taking the time to read my post

Plants won't really have much effect on the cycling process. You cn add plants if you want though. You say the ammonia won't go down. The answers to a few questions would help:

When did you add ammonia to start the cycling?
What was the ammonia reading after you added it?
What size tank is it?
Did you use dechlorinator?
Have you added any other chemicals such as Amquel of AmmoLoc?

well i was originally going to do a cycle with fish and they died so i just left the tank for the ammonia levels to go down. anyway, they didnt! i added a product 'cycle' along with a snippet of some sponge filter from a gold fish tank. I found out later that the product 'cycle' actually contains ammonia so the levels spiked to 2.4 from 1.2 ppm.

i just tested the tap water then and it contains 0.6 ppm of ammonia which i found was toxic to fish and killed them in a matter of just days wacko.gif wacko.gif wacko.gif (from my first fish)

its a 28L tank (7.5 gallons?) - only baby.

i used a dechorinator called tri start which removes chlorine and chloramine.

p.s i just got a wooded plant looks really pretty - i'll take a photo for u all soon.
