One of my fish was acting strange. She was swimming close to the bottom, not eating for 3 days, and rubbing against stuff. She was round around the belly and her stomach was black. Was she pregnant?

Well today i came home and found a single fry hiding in the gravel. we could not find any other ones swimming around cry1.gif . Then it darted past and got eaten rip.gif . I don't know what to do because i have three platies and two angels and i know that platies breed often and i want at least a couple to survive. Help me!!!!!!!! shout.gif

add loads of plants, floating work very well and some of the fry should be clever enough to hide in there until noticed

If you want as many as poss. to survive, then a small tank for them is the option. >Put plenty of plants in and put the heavily pregnant fish in just before ready to give birth. 25-40 usually drop from Swordtails/Platies.

(I use a floating trap as the fry already in could be eaten by the adult)

As suggested, if you add very dense plants (artificial are fine) this will give a natural hiding place to allow a few fry the chance to grow big enough not to be eaten.

The trouble with using a breeding trap is you end up with 30+ fry which will eventually need a home. Some LFS will relieve you of them but don't expect much or any in the way of payment. Also it will happen again 3 weeks later and so on crazy.gif

I think the plants and letting nature take it's chance method the best (as in the wild)
