picking tank up this week. Its 30 inches deep 24 high so 150g I believe

I was looking for bigger but this was available cheap from a guy near me

I have no firm plans yet ut wondering about fish I have never kept before like stingrays? (its quite deep) could I do anything with these
any arowanas? (prob grow too big but never researched them before)

mbu puffer? (prob destroy anything else in there?

or a shoal of a large shoaling fish but what/

can someone help me and give me some inspitration lol

Tank is way too small for a Mbu Puffer, you want to triple that tank for happily housing a Mbu for life (at least)

As for the Arowana id probably say again the tank is too small, although (pains me to say this) T1K is your man for Asians or Mark. Its way too small for Silver Arowana etc..check out CFC's 30" Silver Monster

If you want oddballs there are plenty that will do great in there, not least Channas, Polypterus etc

You could have maybe a trio of Potamotrygon scobina. I believe they are the smallest of commonly imported rays.

You'll be damn lucky to ever find a scobina for sale, they haven't been common in the hobby for a long time.

You could keep a trio of the smaller ray species like P.orbygini or P.yepezi in the tank provided the bottom was left clear and there were no other bottom dwellers, 60" is on the small side for a ray tank but i've had 16" rays in a tank that was just 6 inches longer and the same width, and while i wouldnt say it was ideal it wasn't terrible either.

Its definately too short for any arowana, 72" would be the absolute bare minimum for an Asian or Australian arowana.

Its still a big tank though and you can easily get away with fish up to around 15" long, possibly 18" if they arent too active.

If you want really interesting fish, that tank size would be great for 3 or 4 smaller saltwater rays. Could probably even keep a shark (a real, boneless one) in that tank.

I already have a clown knife 2 fire eels and an ornate bichir so will move them over to this tank

I realise that I will need something bigger at some point for knife but he will be happy for a while yet

what snakeheads remain manageable size?

pikes cichlids are nice but would they lend well to oddbal community? probably not for a tank this small

are they compatible with anything else in tank or a nasty puffer. Looks wise they are top banana!!

Cats from the doridadae family are worth looking into.
I've seen Sirminion post a few times, so he does still visit at least.

i see a fish house at the end of the garden in your future

well the fella selling the tank did say he had another I could have for free. why not could stick my Bristlenoses in there.

I would love a fish house.. but not this garden. house is for sale and ersuaded mrs to want a big old house in not as good an area as she wanted houses previously. the big old houses by me have basements!!!! happy days

Watch the moisture if you do have a fish room in the basement, the main reason for getting my fish house finished in a hurry was because keeping the tanks in the garage was causing a huge damp patch on our living room wall which is the other side of the garage. Lots of ventilation is the answer, but that means heat loss which pushes bills up, its much cheaper just to build a rough building which doesnt matter if damp wrecks it over a few years.
