Help, My Plants Have Some Sort Of White Hair Growing On Them!, Algae???? Beginner to plants |

With the attached photo could someone please tell me what is wrong with my plants and the possible solutions, I have a UGF (which i know isnt great for plants ) but no money for other filtration system avaliable.

Cant see properly but they look ok to me, maybe someone with more plant experience will reply and answer your question better than i can.

i would guess at hair algae. Also im about 90% sure that the second plant is non aquatic

both are aquatic as i got them healthy from my LFS, hmmm, hair algae? solutions?

sorry to say but that does not mean they are aquatic. I once bought a plant from a lfs that i trusted. Turned out it was non aquatic

both are aquatic as i got them healthy from my LFS, hmmm, hair algae? solutions? cheers, Mark Again, that second plant is NOT aquatic. It is Dracena sanderiana, which is not a true aquarium plant. See here for more on the non-aquatic plant. As for the hair algae, I am lucky as I have never had to deal with it, but a quick google search brings up many options that seem helpful. Drew |

ok cheers guys, i have taken the offending plants out. I keep reading hair algae is green, black not white, is this true or can you get whit hair algae as well?

Cheers Mark I'm not an expert, but you should search for information on overdosing your tank with Seachem Excel. It should do the trick. There are a wide variety of opinions on exactly how big the overdoes should be. If the algae is not widespread you can use a syringe and with the filter off "spray" the plant directly with Excel. Algaefix is supposed to work on hair algae too. I double checked and got an email confirming this from one of their technical people. |
