i have an old betta boy who needs some TLC, he's a real fighter but has been quite skinny for a while, and i wanted to try and treat him without moving him, the idea of leaving his home would cause him undue stress and i don't want to finish him off (he came to me a year ago after having all his fins ripped off by paradise fish, he deserves a gentle retirement!).

he's a in an 8 gallon with 2 amano shrimp and 2 corydoras habrosus (the corys were 4, but i lost 2 a month or 2 ago, hopefully getting a 70 litre soon and moving shrimp, corys, and a lone oto in another tank over to the 70 and bringing the numbers back up).

I'm more concerned how skinny the fish is.
Is the betta eating.
Being skinny can be old age, internal parasites, to fish tb.
Its more the parasites med that harm strimp, I think bacterial meds are fine.

he's been skinny for several months, still eating, still active, i thought maybe it was old age, but my paranoia does kick in!
i don't know how old he is, estimate around 3 years. i've lost a lot of bettas over the last few months, one a surprise and suspect internal bacteria (only had 2 months, went down hill really fast), the other a possible illness and/or old age (went down hill even faster).

He's getting on then if you had him 3 years.
What does it look like when he goes to the toilet.
Check his anus to see if its elarged or red and inflamed.

he does normal chunky balls of poopy. it was green yesterday, but that's because he steals the algae wafers off the amano shrimp.

Ok for now then I would just out his weight loss down to old age.
Good luck.
