i feel like crying!
went to bed about 10ish last night, with a major head-ache.. then the little ones all start sneaking into the bed. i wasnt impressed as i dont get more than a couple of hours each night anyway,so i grabbed a spare duvet and pillows and came down to the sofa, not long after i decided that the oscars needed back the airpump that i had put on the platy fry tank( theres broke yesterday) so i swapped it over ,got all cosey and warm... then at 3.45am got woken up by the most horrendous gurrgling noise.. took me few mins to realise it wasnt my alarm clock, then i got up to see what it was and put my feet straight into 1 soggy rug.....the silicone pipe had escaped from the fry tank ( which im sure i tucked in) and has emptied approx 50 litres of water over the floor ( laminate),the gurrgling was the filter pumping nothing!
i quickley opened the tank as i had 2 females in there in nets, and dropped the nets into the water left, the tank must have emptied quite fast as the females are fine,as are the 100+ fry that are in the tank.
i have just finished moving the sfas out, and used about 10 bath towels and a mop and bucket to get it all cleaned up.....

and why?? .. all because i didnt use a non-return valve on the line crazy.gif .. ive got brusies on my ass from kicking it myself!!you wouldnt believe how annoyed i am at myself, nearly murdered my fish, possibly have ruined the laminate floor, dont take much to make it curl up at the edges, and my rug is ruined and in the garden.the worst bit being that i have about 8 non-return valves all nice and new in a box under the tank shout.gif shout.gif

and too top it all, i felt like i havent had 5 mins sleep, im pretty sure jambo and buddy are peeing theirselves laughing at me

from a very tired very upset shelagh xxxxxx
lessons to be learnt

Argh, I had that happen with a CO2 line that slipped once...what a mess, and it was quite luckily discovered before too much poured out.

That really sucks! Hope everything turns out OK. I had that happen to me too when my air pump fell of its stand. But it was only a few gallons on a tile floor. I also wasn't using a non-return valve, they where in the fish cabinet still the the box. Yeah I felt like an idiot too. Its a lesson you only go through once.

Hope things get better!

i know exactly how you feel, its happened to me too
about 100L all onto my bedroom floor, I felt like putting my foot through the glass then chuckin it out of my third storey window
i think it happenes to most people at some point, thats the thing with keeping big boxes full of lots of water in our houses, it seems to have a nasty habit of escaping!

no, i was lucky that the filter woke me up, making that horrible noise, so it wasnt as if it was sitting there for hours, the rug in a write off, but thats easily sorted, but thanks for cheering me up everyone, and my day did get better.. eventually lol

thanks everyone xxxx
