TFF Fish Store Map
This is a map for TFF members to add their LFS to, so that others can find them easily, or get an idea of where has lots of fish stores. It is also for our community to see where it's members are based. The intention is to build a powerful resource for all of us. For this to work, we need YOU to take part! Don't go crazy just yet, a little time now will save a lot later! Navigating around the map On the left of the map are 4 arrows with a center button in the middle. The 4 arrows navigate you around the map. The group of 4 arrows on one button resets the map. Below this is a + button, which zooms in, then a "ladder" that shows you how zoomed in you are and allows you to zoom in jumps (half way is city kind of level), and below this is a zoom out - button. The map is centered on London, because, well it has to be centered somewhere! A couple of zooms in, and a couple of moves around, and you can be anywhere in the world. Step 1. Signing yourself up the most effective way Go to Frappr and sign up. Click MyFrappr, then down the left you have My Profile, which has edit profile in it. In your basic profile options you can edit your position, and save your marker (make sure you use a member marker). You can get it to a very very detailed level in this section, but you might want to leave it a bit vague or a little bit away from your house if you prefer not to show your precise location on the web. If you are a breeder, put in the fish that you breed in your shout out, and use the breeder marker. Step 2. Adding yourself to the TFF Fish Store Map Click the link to the TFF Fish Store Map. Then click add myself on the right hand side, and your marker will be on there! Step 3. Adding your LFS(s)/Breeder(s) to the map. To add a marker for a fish store (again remember to use the right marker), find the map (by clicking the first link above) click add place, and use the basic world city (include the address and phone number in the description). You should now find it in the places tab of the map markers, off to the bottom right of the map. Click on your new place, then click edit, and refine the marker position on the little map to the right to put it in precisely the correct place. Now whenever someone else clicks the place, it'll center the map and they can zoom straight to a detailed satellite image of the LFS. You can also add breeders (but use the right marker). General. To go direct to a member, breeder, or LFS, use the "places" tab and you'll zoom straight in. Otherwise, explore the map. If the map is running a bit slow, you can choose to view it a "Map" (roads and place names only), Sat (satellite image only), or Hybrid (both at the same time). The default for this map is hybrid, the slowest to load. This map is to be used in conjunction with these ratings threads here and here Any queries/requests, please post in this thread, or pm me. Just to be the paranoid one.. im never sure about putting such specific details about where i live/work on the internet for all to see. For LFS though, i think its a great idea..
Squid PS.. before anyone says it.. saying at work Guildford (as per details on the left) is a bit different to showing you the road i live in.. This post has been edited by Squid: May 9 2006, 12:55 PM |

Squid - I'm with you on this. While its a great idea for LFS and reviews, I always think twice about personal details.
In fact is there anyway to use peoples ages as a check when registering? This post has been edited by ncjharris: May 9 2006, 11:56 AM |

You don't have to give away sufficient detail to identify where you live. You can just put yourself as "Guildford" or whatever. In fact, even if you put your street, without specifically adding your house number it's still not enough to identify you. Nevetheless, caution is advisable.
As squid says, it is primarily designed for LFS, and it is of little consequence whether you choose to add yourself although it might be nice even if you're vague about it. Please do not let personal security fears proclude you from adding LFSs though, this could evolve into a powerful tool for us all. You may have seen from the insecure danasoft sigs permitted on this forum just how easy it is to obtain your IP address. How do you know the sig itself is not logging and relaying it? I am active on forums concerned with this type of thing and these sigs are banned for that reason. Further, every time you post on this or any other forum, your IP address will have been logged by that forum. Give your IP address to somone with a bit of noodle and you're identifiable. Unless you're running through proxy servers, you're closing the stable door after the horse has bolted with regards to worrying about the map. I understand the point you are making, and totally agree that this will be a very useful tool for the LFS. I was just highlighting the fact that people should be careful You cant be too careful, and this enables the people without the noodle to know that little bit more. A combination of that map and the "pics of your car" thread make you a little more identifiable The majority of the time the IP address which i display will be a work one. Cheers Squid |

It all depends on how worried you are about giving your ID away. I feature on the internet in my real name, and also under a few different user names for increasingly shall we say, varied topics. Never the twain shall meet, that's for sure! |
