Firstly check that you have Java installed on your pc,
if not go to http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp and download it free still can't access it? try this Firefox users in any open window click Tools at the top then click Options click the icon web features check the boxes enable java and enable javascript are ticked, if not tick them click ok Note; if they are untick them, click ok close all windows restart firefox (open new window) then follow the previouse. you should now be able to access live chat IE users in any open window click Tools at the top then click Inetnet Options click on the advanced tab scrool down untill you see the java coffee cup icon check that use JRE box is ticked, if not tick it. now click the security tab click custom level check that all activeX boxes are ticked as enable except Download unsigned ActiveXcontrols which should be ticked as prompt scroll down to Microsoft VM ensure Java permissions is set to one of the options, IE high safety (not disabled) scroll down untill you see scripting ensure all scripting is set to enable click apply then ok you should now be able to acces the chat room. If you still can't access the java chat room contact Java at http://www.java.com/en/download/help/ or go for another program like mIRC I hope that some of you make it into chat |

mIRC
For those that are still having trouble connecting to chat, please concider downloading mIRC. It is a very easy to use program, and it pretty much never fails to connect you to the chat you want to join. 1. Download mIRC it can be found at http://www.mirc.com 2. Load mIRC and fill in the settings under Connect: - Full Name: Can be anything, don't use your real last name - Email Address: That too can be anything, up to you if you use your real email address - NickName: whatever you want it to be - Alternative NickName: whatever you want it to be, incase the first one is in use already 3. Go to 'Servers' (right under Connect) and fill in the settings there as well: - IRC Network: All - IRC Server: Click 'add' * Description: FishForums Chat * IRC Server: irc.oftc.net * Port(s): 6667 * Group: Can be left blank * Password: Can be left blank - Click 'add' to actually add it to your server list 4. Make sure that under the 'Servers' your IRC Server is now set to FishForums Chat. If so, click 'Connect to Server'. This should left you connect to the correct server fishforums is on, but not to the actual chat yet. 5. Once connected type /join #fishforums That should have done the trick =) Now, if you want to join more often, you don't have to fill in the settings again. They will be remembered for next time you join. So all you'll have to do is click 'connect to server' and then type /join #fishforums. You can however also get rid of the /join #fishforums by adding it in your options list, so you'll join automatically when connected. To do so follow these steps: 1. Open mIRC Options 2. Under 'Connect' go to Options 3. Click the 'perform' button. Make sure to first click the little 'Enable perform on connect' once the tab opens up. Set your network to 'All Networks' and under perform commands you type /join #fishforums Click ok, and this should let you connect to fishforum chat right away every time you click 'connect to server' |

I used to be able to get onto live chat no-problemo.
I think since the recent TFF website update I have been unable to get in. Java is installed and Firefox enabled. I have not changed anything on my PC.... Just a thought, Andy [edit] - Just tried IE & that does not work either. I think the problems lies here, not with Java or Firefox / IE. Ever since the upgrade, something has been wrong with chat. You'll need to use the temporary link, which is:

I think you should instruct the forum users to download an IRC client (program) instead. It is more reliable, plus will cause less confusion with other open webpages should they also be running Java applets as well. Most will just click the program tab when they feel like chatting instead of firing up the web-based applet. I find it a lot more "comfortable" to deal with. More so, we will have more people idling and supporting the channel when there is more stability with no Java conflicts involved with different web browsers and whatnot. The presence of more people will automatically make others join and remain in the #fishfuroms channel. I have been using IRC since 1996 to network with other regarding digital video animation as well as on-line multiplayer computer gaming. And it is a great tool to use to get answers right away from others that are knowledgeable in matters. Both www.xchat.org and www.klient.com are the best IRC clients, IMHO. Klient has the best "professional clean look", but I lean more to X-Chat because it reminds me of an IRC program I use to use on the Amiga computer called AmIRC. They both will have to be purchased after a free 30-day trial, so bare that in mind. If any of you feel like poking around with both programs, I sugguest you download one first, use it for 30 days. Then download the other the following 30 days and decide which best suits you. But mIRC is the most widely used and it is free after 30-days, but has a little annonying reminder thereafter to register to help support -but still can be used. However, mIRC is rather confusing to the new beginner and is rather bland looking. If this thread is not a sticky already, I sugguest somebody make it a sticky right away. With the droves of active members we have here in the forum, the channel will become populated rather quickly. As long as people do not mind taking the little headache of setting up an IRC program. But once it is all set up, it's just a matter of several clicks and you are in chatting with other FishForums.net people before you know it ! Regards, Hans Yonkers, New York |

Opera users have an integrated mIRC client in their browser. Just go to Tools > mail and chat accounts to add.
